Why it's easier to stitch

Same photo, same size, fewer thread changes

We cut out your pet, simplify fur and shading into clean shapes, and match each area to a real DMC colour. Every lone stitch is merged into its neighbours, so you stitch in blocks instead of hopping between colours.

Both charts are 120 stitches on the long side with up to 25 colours, from the same free stock photo (Pexels). The free chart was made on flosscross.com at that size and colour count. Counts are averages per row from our own analysis of each chart.

Where AI comes in, and where it doesn't

Plenty of AI-made patterns are a mess, so here is exactly what ours does. It all runs on our own computers, and you see the whole pattern before you pay.

Easy stitch
An AI image model redraws your photo in simple, flat shapes, keeping your pet's own colours. That's what turns fuzzy fur into calm blocks of colour.
Detailed
No AI redraw. Your photo is charted as it is, so fur and shading stay closer to the photo, with more colour changes to stitch.
Both styles
An AI cut-out model removes the background (choose Background: Kept to skip it). Matching to DMC colours and merging lone stitches is done by ordinary colour-matching code, not an AI model.

Every example was charted by Stitchkin from a free stock photo (Pexels or public-domain photos on Wikimedia Commons), not from a customer's pet, in Easy stitch at the medium size with up to 25 colours, and is shown as our preview draws it. Some photos chart better than others, which is why the preview is free.

Questions

Is the preview really free?

Yes. You see your pet as a finished cross-stitch, with its size and colour count, before paying anything. Change the style, size, colours or background as often as you like.

Is this made with AI?

Partly. In Easy stitch mode an AI model on our own computers simplifies your photo into flat shapes, keeping your pet's colours. Detailed mode doesn't redraw your photo at all. In both, an AI cut-out model removes the background unless you choose to keep it. The chart itself is made by a colour-matching algorithm using real DMC colours.

Which photos work best?

One pet, close up, in good light, with the pet filling most of the box. Dark, blurry or far-away photos chart poorly; the preview shows you before you pay. Faces of people don't chart well at these sizes, so we recommend pets.

What size will it be?

Small, medium and large are 80, 120 and 160 stitches on the long side. On 14-count Aida that's about 5.7, 8.6 and 11.4 inches; the preview shows the exact size for your photo.

Does it work with Pattern Keeper?

Yes. The symbol chart uses real text symbols rather than a picture of a grid, so Pattern Keeper imports it with every DMC colour. We checked a sample pattern in the app. The colour chart pages are pictures, so the app reads the chart only once.

What happens to my photo?

It's used only to make your pattern, on our own computers. Photos are deleted within 24 hours and your pattern files within 7 days, so download what you buy. They're never shared or used to train AI models.

What if I'm not happy?

Email help@foundingaccess.app within 7 days of buying and we'll refund you in full, no questions asked.
